Tired of the same old last minute rush for something to stand out at Rallies or demos? Then come along and join the GetUp MelbWest Action Group for social get together and to build a couple of new demo puppets. A new way to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day
No experience necessary, though some sewing and wire work skills would help. We’ve got an experienced artist and a puppet builder on hand to guide proceedings.
The Plan
- We’ve got a list of things to build, including a Planet Earth Puppet and a wearable planet earth, plus some coal lumps on the attack.
- First puppets will be built from rattan and calico, tied together with wire and whatever we have to hand. We’ll have materials on hand to build to our plans and specs only, but there’s a degree of professional winging it.
- We’ll start with a briefing to gather ideas and direct the build and to brainstorm new ideas.
- We’ve got a follow-up session on Sunday 18th November to complete the build and gather new ideas
Who should come?
- People who want to help out and find out more about getting involved with GetUp!
- Members of other GetUp action groups who would like to find out what’s involved or might like to borrow the completed puppets
- Members of MelbWest Action group
What to bring
- Materials supplied (unless you’ve got ideas of your own you want to try out)
- Wear comfortable old clothing – prepared to get messy
- Gardening type gloves if you want to protect your hands
