National Hive FAQ

The GetUp Action Network National Hive will be held on the 13th -15th July , at Myuna Bay Recreational Facility, south of Newcastle. It's the first national get together for the GetUp Action Network and will be a chance to talk about the vision, progress and upcoming activities for the network. A chance to for the network's most active members - action group leaders and State Support Team members -  to get connected and get inspired!  Hopefully this answers a bunch of your questions - if not feel free to email us or get us on slack. 

The program will go from 6.30pm on Friday 13th July, and end at 4pm on Sunday 15th July. Although if you need to arrive later on Friday that is possible.  

It will be held at the Myuna Bay Recreation Facility on the shores of Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle. You can check out more information about the venue here:

Members of State Support Teams, and up to three people from each action group - ideally the Co-ordinator, the Organising Co-ordinator and the Campaign Co-ordinator (or people who are acting in these roles). There will also be staff from GetUp attending.

We are in the process now of finalising the content for the program. There are three streams - one on campaigning with a focus on elections, and two on organising. Ideally three people attend from each group, and each attend a different stream.

The content for the organising streams is drawn from feedback from action group co-ordinators about workshop content, and so far key themes have emerged around recruitment, retention and group development, as well as more clarity on the vision and strategy for the GetUp Action Network as a whole. The content for the campaign stream will focus on GetUp’s election platform, and how we engage with voters.

All of the accommodation and food costs for the event are covered for all participants. However participants are expected to meet their own travel costs. BUT we are keen that this not be a barrier to action group leaders participating. If you need financial assistance with travel, please indicate this in your registration form.

If you’re coming from Sydney, you can catch the Newcastle train to Morisset, and similarly if you’re coming from Newcastle you can catch the same train South.  If you’re coming from further afield than Sydney, then you can fly to Newcastle airport, and we’re arranging transport from there.

We will provide more comprehensive travel information closer to the time, and we will be arranging shuttles from the train station to the venue.

There is a working group made up of State Support Team members, action group leaders and staff from the organising team, with two sub groups for program and logistics. If you’re interested in getting involved in the organising send a slack message to Ellen Roberts.
