Peter Dutton has proven he will do whatever it takes to drag Australian politics further towards the right. He may be powerful in Canberra, but in his electorate of Dickson in outer Brisbane, Dutton is fighting for his political life.
In Canberra this week we’ve seen his role in marshalling the hard right faction. And he’s not just wreaking havoc on the Liberal party, but is pursuing an agenda that is fuelling dangerous climate change, imprisoning children in offshore detention camps, and driving discrimination and hate.
Hanging on by a margin of only 1.7%, Dutton runs a real risk of losing his seat at the next election.
The best way for us to take on Dutton is to ramp up our efforts to defeat him at the ballot box, and end his destructive influence on our politics. And to do that, we need thousands more people joining the people-powered effort.
