Barton Future To Fight For Workshop 14 August 2018

For the first time in human history, we have the resources, technology, and skills to build a society where no-one is forced to subsist in poverty. Where a secure, well-paid job is available to all who want one. A society in which everyone has a place to call home, and the skills to build the life they want to lead.

What holds us back today is not scarcity, but the stranglehold of powerful corporations who for too long have taken far more than their fair share.

This isn't normal. And it isn't something we just have to accept.

We need a new vision for our society – a charter of economic rights that replaces the narrow interests of corporations and wealthy elites with our collective interest as citizens.

We need to recognise the simple truth that we don't exist to serve the economy, the economy exists to serve us.

The core goals for this meeting are:
  • Develop a better understanding of the needs and priorities of people in and around the Barton electorate using one to one surveys. Later, use that understanding to better campaign with, and on behalf of, people in the electorate.
  • Provide an opportunity for new people to help publicise a new vision for our society (that serves our collective interest as citizens) with Barton Action Group.
  • Refine the draft survey/s and agree an introduction that will enable small groups to comfortably survey local people.
  • List possible sites for surveys and schedule volunteers and particular places for trialling the survey.
Then relax and celebrate the opportunities this campaign offers.
