Higgins & Kooyong #KidsOffNauru Speaker & Action Evening

Right now over 100 innocent children are being detained on Nauru by our government. These children are living in inhumane conditions, exposed to extreme trauma, violence and sexual abuse. Up to 30 children are in a critical condition and have stopped eating, drinking, walking, talking and are becoming non-responsive. Medical specialists have reported that without action, a child will die.

Whatever the problem is, locking up children is not the solution! And we need your help to keep the pressure on our government to get these #KidsOffNauru.

We invite you to our #KidsOffNauru Speaker & Action Evening
Our speaker is Rutaban Yameen, a volunteer with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre as both a Strategy Researcher and Legal Caseworker. She is formally trained as a lawyer and is currently studying towards a postgraduate qualification in Human Rights Law at the University of Melbourne.

Rutaban will share aspects of the current situation on Nauru and in Australian politics, an update on the #KidsOffNauru campaign and details of upcoming grassroots actions that you, your family, friends and colleagues can get involved in. We will also have some fun surprise activities where you will be able to send messages to your MP, urging them to act, from your seat right there and then. And of course, we will have some social mingling, drinks and nibbles.
