Host a conversation

Our communities have the solutions we need, but the Morrison government is not listening to everyday people.

That’s why this election, we’re changing politics from the ground up.

At kitchen tables, in Zoom rooms and in community halls, we’re having conversations about important issues and helping people use their vote to deliver real change.

Host a group conversation with friends, family and neighbours about health care, cultural heritage or climate justice to discuss its impact on our communities and where the parties stand.

At the end of your event, collect pledges from your peers to vote for the issue. Together, we’ll pressure candidates to commit to real action or risk losing votes.

How it works

  1. Register to host a conversation
  2. Receive your host pack with an example agenda
  3. Pick a date and invite your friends
  4. Host your event!
  5. Let candidates know where you stand

You can choose to host a conversation on one of three key issues: climate justice, cultural heritage or health care. At the end of your conversation, you and your attendees can pledge to vote for candidates who commit to act on your issue, and GetUp will send you all an updated How to Vote card closer to Election Day.

The power of conversations

Research shows that face to face conversations are the most effective way to persuade someone to vote for the best candidate on an issue.

They work because honest, heartfelt conversations open space for us to reflect on our values and hear stories that help us empathise with how an issue impacts people.

Make new friends. Learn change-making skills.

When you register, you’ll receive:

  • A host pack, containing instructions and some discussion questions and resources
  • Printable posters and flyers on your chosen issue
  • An opt in support call from an experienced volunteer coach
  • Access to online trainings on the key issues and how to have persuasive conversations
